Virginie Viard Leaves Chanel

By June 6, 2024Fashion News

Right Decision?

Having officially taken over the helm of Chanel’s creative director role back in 2019, it was announced last night that Virgnie Viard would be departing the French fashion house with immediate effect.

Spending 30 years involved in Chanel in some capacity, the departure of Virginie Viard from the outfit altogether has come as quite the surprise to many in the fashion industry, with Viard having seemingly being an immovable mainstay in the luxury collective’s arsenal. Despite this, recently underwhelming creations and seasonal lines have left Chanel in their “stick or twist” moment, and they’ve decided to twist.

In an official statement about Viard’s departure, Chanel stated the following:

“Chanel confirms the departure of Virginie Viard after a rich collaboration of five years as artistic director of fashion collections, during which she was able to renew the codes of the house while respecting the creative heritage of Chanel, and almost 30 years within the house. A new creative organisation will be announced in due course. Chanel would like to thank Virginie Viard for her remarkable contribution to Chanel’s fashion, creativity and vitality.”

As planned, Chanel’s latest haute couture Fall/Winter 2024/25 collection will be presented on June 25th in Paris.
