Liberation.
Mexican-American designer and two-time CFDA trophy winner, Willy Chavarria, has dropped the first instalment from his Spring/Summer 2025 collection titled Americana.
“I got a lot of inspiration from the United Farm Workers Movement, the Civil Rights Movement, the women’s liberation movements of the past that have truly brought people together to create change,” says Chavarria after his show in September. “But also the guy going to work at AT&T with his name on his shirt and his keyring hanging from his pocket because he’s about to open the store.”
His collection is undeniably street coded, spanning the office sirens making their way to their finance jobs to the functional mechanic job at a local tire shop. Regardless of how high or low profile the task is, Chavarria’s collection highlights the importance by putting them on the same level. Uplifted mechanic shirts are styled with muted pleated trousers, utility plaid shirts can be seen paired with a leather skirt or the same cotton pants, and balloon shorts that look similar to a skirt are offered alongside a tank top and a pronounced blazer.
Willy Chavarria’s Americana collection is available on the designer’s website. Check out the campaign shots below.
