My name is Khrystyna Kurliak, and I am the founder and designer of Khris K, an independent luxury fashion house established in Ukraine in 2017.
From the very beginning, I never wanted to build a brand that simply follows seasonal trends. My vision was to create a fashion house where every collection is born from an authentic source of inspiration rather than the latest fashion movement. As a result, every garment carries its own identity.
No two Khris K collections are ever created using the same formula. I never begin with a predetermined concept. Inspiration may come from architecture, nature, cinema, or even an unexpected moment in everyday life that refuses to fade until it finds expression through design. The most important principle is trusting those first emotions, because they give rise to the most honest collections.
I believe that haute couture should remain rare. That is why nearly ninety percent of my couture pieces are never reproduced. Each garment is created as a unique work of art, allowing its owner to wear something truly one of a kind.
For me, luxury is defined by craftsmanship and intentionality. Every detail matters—from architectural silhouettes and our signature peg-top shape to handcrafted elements that subtly shape the character of every design. Even our approach to sustainability reflects this philosophy: leftover fabrics are transformed into our signature textile buttons, demonstrating that beauty and responsibility can naturally coexist.
The soul of Khris K is built on authenticity. I never create collections to satisfy trends or marketing expectations. Every collection begins with a genuine emotion, memory, experience, or question that seeks expression through form.
To me, fashion is far more than clothing. It is a language for expressing individuality, inner strength, beauty, and humanity.
Beyond Haute Couture: Khrystyna Kurliak on Building an Independent Luxury Fashion House

Khris K was never intended to exist solely within the world of haute couture, although couture remains the artistic heart of the fashion house.
I have always believed that the philosophy behind the brand should also become part of a modern woman’s everyday life.
Alongside couture creations, I design limited ready-to-wear collections available across a full size range. This allows each collection to preserve its individuality while making the brand accessible to women who appreciate exceptional craftsmanship and timeless design.
Whether I am creating equestrian collections or contemporary pieces, the philosophy remains unchanged. Every collection is developed with the same attention to detail, uncompromising quality, and deep understanding of the woman who will ultimately wear it.
Building an independent luxury fashion house means finding the balance between complete creative freedom and designing collections that naturally become part of everyday life. Throughout that journey, the identity of Khris K remains constant—authentic, refined, and intentionally created.
The Creative Process Behind Khris K

Many of my designs begin with a single sketch.
I have never been a designer who redraws the same idea repeatedly in search of perfection. When an idea arrives complete and clear, I trust it. More often than not, that first sketch becomes the final one because it contains a sincerity that cannot be recreated later.
From there, the creative process continues directly on the mannequin.
I allow the fabric to become part of the dialogue because every material has its own personality and often reveals possibilities that no drawing alone can predict.
For me, creating fashion is a balance between intuition and craftsmanship.
Technical expertise gives me the freedom to shape the garment, while intuition gives every collection its soul.
Khrystyna Kurliak: From Haute Couture to International Cinema
Serving as the lead costume designer for the feature film The Portal of Force: Holiguards Saga became one of the greatest challenges of my professional career.
It was my first experience working in the film industry, and it was a tremendous honor to become part of such a large international production alongside director Kevin Spacey and acclaimed actors Dolph Lundgren, Tyrese Gibson, Brianna Hildebrand, Eric Roberts, and the film’s entire creative team.
What made the project especially meaningful were the extraordinary circumstances in which it was created.
Costume production took place in Lviv, Ukraine, where my team worked during wartime, facing constant power outages and extremely demanding deadlines. In just two and a half weeks, we created every costume from scratch, including handcrafted footwear for most of the principal characters.
The greatest lesson I took away from that experience is simple: nothing is impossible when people genuinely believe in a shared purpose.
There were moments of uncertainty, yet I continuously encouraged my team to keep moving forward. Together, we proved that dedication, trust, and resilience can overcome even the most difficult circumstances.
I remain deeply grateful to everyone who became part of this journey.
The experience strengthened me not only as a designer but also as a leader. It reminded me that the most valuable experience is not what we possess at the beginning of a project, but what we gain by finding the courage to see it through to the end.
