Gone are the days that Joggers are strictly a housebound look. Creeping from Autumn/Winter 2014, the joggers trend has undergone a baptism. Reincarnated into a strong staple, the jogger has outgrown its sporting origins and has pushed the boundaries of modern day fashion; it is now the ultimate staple for every man.
Initially designed with a practical purpose, they are now the focus of style and simplicity. The Jogger is now a method of expression: and an ideal way to add a relaxed statement to your outfit. Here at PAUSE, we give you a head start on how to dress joggers, for any occasion, anywhere.
You want to make sure that whatever you wear, you feel comfortable. After all, there is no indulgence quite like a jogger, and no better reason to wear them now as they no longer stand for dressing down.
The jogger possesses more personality to that of a plain fronted trouser or skinny jean, and stands to be a strong alternative in replacing them too. For a smart casual feel, match up tailored joggers with block knitwear or long-line white shirt or tee for a sure found way to entwine casual in to smart attire.
Adopt a slim-line jogger, which are widely available in a range of textured feels and pleated finishes to replicate tailored trousers, ideal for a smart, comfortable style. The slim-line silhouette is supreme in offering up a clean break to the outfit, that allows the rest of your attire to make a statement.
Be it matched up with a co-ordinating, block coloured shirt or utilised to show off your footwear, a slim-silhouette will make sure the jogger’s appeal is accentuated through association.
Black, white and grey leads the charge this season, so keep to those colour tones for a sophisticated, clean look. ASOS are taking this trend strong this year, so check out their drop of tailored joggers and relaxed formalwear.

Inspiration can still be picked up from last year too, with the sneaks and pleats trend still big in 2015. Switch up a tailored slim jogger with a sleek, streamline trainer- think classic styles such as the Adidas Superstar or Vans Slip-on – ideal for a more casual inspired formal look. Or alternatively, match up with a chunky wedge loafer or Derby shoe, for a more formal tone, allowing the shoes to stake the claim and ensuring you’re dressed for the occasion.
The versatility of the modern jogger is where it has eclipsed the craze and become a trend, as they are easily replicable and most importantly wearable for any occasion. Available in a range of textures and materials, be it leather, print, camo or cloth the jogger offers up a variety of different style choices.
London fashion house, Rabbit Hole London are pioneering bespoke joggers, showcasing a range of slim-line and drop crotch silhouettes with zip detailing and extended pockets in tweed, cargo and coated finishes. Paired up with long-length tees and sweats with their signature bomber, Rabbit Hole London offer up contemporary, urban designs tailored for the casual jogger- and ideal for relaxed wear on a daily basis.
The devil is in the detail, so take on joggers with subtle detailing, be it dropped pockets, zips or turn-ups for a meticulous style that again keeps the jogger styling fresh. Keep things block coloured too; match up your chosen jogger with a simple colour, keeping things monotone or enthuse grey and khaki colour tones for a refined uptake that allows the textures and detailing to take centre stage.
Think Yeezus. Kanye West is a big pioneer of the bespoke jogger trend, switching up joggers in one-colour looks to showcase his meticulous footwear choices- yes you guessed it, suited for the Adidas x Yeezy Boost.
After all, the resurgence of the jogger is synonymous with the rising sneaker culture, as they serve as the ultimate compliment to your footwear. Nearly any sneaker can look strong when applied to a slim-line sweatpant, but if you are wearing black or grey joggers make sure to wear sneakers of the same shade for a more refined look, or for a statement style, switch up a bold, all-over sneaker – think adidas by Raf Simons or Pharrell x Adidas Superstar Supercolour’s collection.
Now in reach of any budget, joggers can be found at any price, with Topman, Urban Outfitters and ASOS offering up strong ranges at affordable, high-street prices, whilst luxury retailer Harvey Nichols stocks high fashion designers such as Balmain, Rick Owens and Alexander McQueen are enthusing joggers in to a lot of their latest looks.
Comfortably residing between streetwear and contemporary menswear as we know it, there are simply no boundaries to when you chose to elastic-it-up.
Sweatpants have never felt so good.
