Stella McCartney Teams up with Adidas to Release First-Ever Vegetarian Sneaker

By September 5, 2018Fashion News, Sneakers

A first of it's kind.

Legendary designer Stella McCartney and Adidas have joined forces once again, this time releasing the first-ever vegetarian Stan Smith sneaker for both men & women.

Designed in line with Stella’s well-publicised cruelty-free outlook on fashion, the new collaborative sneaker stays true to the original design but dons a leather-free upper with subtle differences on the tongue, heel and where the stripes usually sit. A portrait of Stella sits next to Smiths’ face on the tongue while the Stella McCartney logo along with a blue and burgundy stripe appear on the heel. To complete the first vegetarian sneaker, McCartney replaces the signature Adidas three stripes with lines of stars.

Along with the release of the Stella McCartney collaboration, Adidas also celebrated the iconic Stan Smith sneaker with the launch of a new coffee table book titled “Stan Smith: Some People Think I’m a Shoe.” The book covers the global cultural impact the sneaker has had since it’s 70’s debut, along with commentary on its various collaborations with renowned artists, designers, and fashion brands, including Colette, Yohji Yamamoto, Raf Simons, Pharrell Williams and more. The book also features exclusive portraits captured by photographer Juergen Teller and stories from style influencers, sports icons who all speak on the impact of the silhouette.

While Adidas will be hosting book signings throughout September in New York, London, Paris and Tokyo to celebrate the launch of the commemorative book,  the Stella McCartney x Adidas Stan Smiths are set to drop September 10th. See images of the shoe & the book cover below:
