Matthieu Blazy is the new creative director of Chanel.

In what seems like a double whammy of events, breaking news unveils Matthieu Blazy as the new creative director of Chanel as Louise Trotter takes over at Bottega Veneta.

“I am thrilled and honoured to join the wonderful House of Chanel. I look forward to meeting all the teams and writing this new chapter together.”

Blazy, who stepped into the role of Creative Director at Bottega Veneta in November 2021 following Daniel Lee, brought fresh innovation to the brand with his expertise in craftsmanship and material manipulation. His ability to transform leather into flannel, knitwear, and denim remains unparalleled. Prior to his leadership at Bottega, Blazy served as the house’s ready-to-wear design director. Now, he moves on to Chanel, succeeding Virginie Viard, who spent over three decades at the iconic Parisian maison, including leading it after Karl Lagerfeld’s passing.

Since Virginie Viard’s unexpected departure from Chanel in June 2024, the role has remained unfilled, fuelling a whirlwind of speculation about her successor.
