Studio NEiDA unveils The Falcon Cinema project in Ghana

A cultural hub dedicated to preserving Africa’s cinematic legacy

Studio NEiDA has revealed plans for The Falcon, an ambitious cinema and cultural centre in Ghana designed to celebrate, preserve and advance African filmmaking. Located in Berekuso, north of Accra, the project will serve as both a screening venue and a community space dedicated to African cinema and its diaspora.

Commissioned by film curator and cultural anthropologist Jacqueline Nsiah, The Falcon has been conceived as a home for film lovers, researchers and emerging creatives. The programme includes two screening rooms with capacities of 250 and 150 seats, alongside an outdoor cinema, restaurant, archive, education hub and communal gathering spaces. A future expansion will also introduce accommodation for filmmakers in residence.

Drawing inspiration from traditional Asante architecture, the design centres around four buildings arranged around a communal courtyard. Constructed using earth materials and palm-leaf thatching, the project embraces locally sourced materials and passive cooling techniques, creating a contemporary cultural destination rooted in Ghanaian building traditions.

Beyond architecture, The Falcon’s mission is equally focused on preservation. The project aims to establish a comprehensive archive for African film, helping to safeguard works currently dispersed across the globe while creating a platform for future generations of filmmakers and audiences.

Currently in the design phase and projected for completion in 2027, The Falcon represents a significant investment in Africa’s cultural infrastructure, positioning Ghana as an emerging destination for film, creativity and critical dialogue.
