Vans x Disney OG Classics

“Holiday! Celebrate!” Madonna once sang, and as adverts appear on TV for sunscreen, you know it’s time for the summer holiday season. Whether you plan to show your passport some much-needed attention and jet off to exotic climbs, or plan a ‘staycation’, it’s important you think about what you will be wearing. And while we can’t do anything about your flabby gut or your pigeon chest, we can give you tips on how to make your holiday a stylish one.

My holiday is a… Heatwave

shorts

If you’re going somewhere that offers nothing but wall to wall sunshine, there is a temptation to just pack a pair of shorts, a string vest and be done with it. However, what kind of shorts will you pack? The secret here is to attract attention by wearing bold colours and prints. Fortunately this is season the highstreet is offering shorts in every colour under the sun. Make your shorts the centre of your outfit. Pair them with a block coloured t-shirt (in a complimentary colour of course). Wear them with footwear that can be easily slipped on and off, such as espadrilles. Or, if you need flip flops and want to do some good at the same time, why not invest in a pair of Gandys?

Oh, and leave the string vest at home. In fact, throw it in the bin. Thanks.

My holiday is… changeable

Some countries have unpredictable weather *cough* England *cough*. If your holiday is in one of these countries, layering is key. You won’t need a thick jacket (unless you’re holidaying near the Arctic circle), but taking a light waterproof jacket for rainy days won’t hurt. Also, if your country has warm days and cool nights, buying some thin knitwear will keep the breeze away.

My holiday is… a city escape

bag

Exploring a new city is always fun and exciting. Nevertheless, walking around all day will be tiring. Stay comfortable by refraining from clothes that are skin-tight. If it gets hot these clothes will stick to you like a second skin, making you feel even hotter. If you need to carry around supplies, but you don’t want to look like you’re a rambler, buy a fashionable backpack such as the one above. Wear comfortable trainers that go with everything, such as Converse or Vans. Also, wearing trainers will help you make a quick escape should you happen to make a wrong turn.

Happy holidays everyone!

Denim will offer us a broad range of options this fall/winter season. Like always when it comes to denim, focus on finding the model and fit which looks best on you. A good advice is to go to a store which offers a wide selection and try everything from tight to loose. Experienced sales staff will be able to guide you, so ask for advice! Once that is all that figured out, choose between the different washes and make sure to add some color this season. PAUSE had a look around and came up with a few tips:

  • Try the New Classic:

For those you don’t plan on exploring anything too different this upcoming season, brands like Diesel can always be trusted to deliver a current fresh take on the classic straight leg jean.

Diesel

However, maybe consider trying the classic jean with a bit of colour, pushing it? We know but you’ll thank us for it this Autumn.

  • Make sure to buy a Smart-Casual pair

We never thiught such a pair existed but Acne’s slim-fitting pair is a well dressed choice for any workday, dinner/date night, holiday or casual weekend. With it’s slightly daring slim fit, and dark tones the jean covers all bases and elongates those legs. The new arrivals shows us black and dark denim. AcneBlueAcneBlack

  • Stay stylishly Distressed
A look that will carry on into the next season, moderately distressed jeans, with more wash and texture than rips are a staple style required for Autumn. Balmain hits the nail on the head with this style coming in blue and black, unfortunately so does the price!
    BALMAIN MR PORTER
  • Dare to go for punk and skinny?

With the British Punk Era making it’s return this AW’13 it’s no surprise that the cigarette jean is coming along for the ride. A more daring style that requires confidence, but trusty Topman offers quite a few styles that nod to the trend but also offer comfort.

With a directional approach remaining strong from one season to the next, high street style saviour Zara have released their shiny new AW13 look book campaign. With a welcome high-end editorial feel, each image shot in a dramatic black and white filter, instantly reflects the dark and heavy undertones of this new collection. With black colour ways running consistently throughout many of the designs, it appears the Spanish giant has revisited classic, timeless styles and given them a daring modern twist – predominately through a use of alternative fabrics, cuts and detailing.

Whilst more colourful pieces remain popular with the modern fashion conscious gent, black is both versatile, wearable and globally recognised as a timeless style statement. Just look to our Parisian or Italian counterparts for a perfected confirmation of this!

As styles remain bold and masculine, it is the mix of fabrics that add a playful edge. Such as the leather trims and trousers, woollen outerwear and chunky knits – all of which standout as instant seasonal must haves. Other pieces that are entirely noteworthy include the range of coats and the blurred check shirt.
