Cheap Monday present their Spring/Summer 2015 Collection at Fashion Week Stockholm.
With a logo reminiscent of a Mexican sugar skull (an offering presented to the living and deceased to celebrate the Day of the Dead) it was no surprise that Stockholm based label Cheap Monday, unveiled a Sub-culture inspired S/S ’15 collection.
Known for their experimentation with denim; Jeans and jackets come ripped, washed and dyed for an alternative grunge look. The brand also features their typical flannel shirts, tied at the waist, to further the grunge subculture trend. Punk elements imbue outfits with further angst: skinny jeans layered in fish net and vertical striped socks add an air of aesthetic rebellion.
Cheap Monday opt for maximalism in regards to print. Scribbles and random etchings decorate pullovers, whilst vociferous lettering adorns jackets and shorts- there’s even a T-shirt with a repeated ‘Shut Up!’ motif. To contradict such brazen design, lightweight knitwear and select pieces in hints of pale pink and withdrawn lilac, quench the ever popular thirst for effeminacy in menswear. Not only is there a discordance of fabrics and prints but also a cultural clash; that for once is harmonious instead of conflicting.

A closer look into A$AP Rocky’s fashion and style. With his documentary coming to an end, it is safe to say that A$AP Rocky has made his dent in the industry, not only in music but also fashion. Since the moment Pretty Flacko and his A$AP crew began making music, they’ve stayed consistent in turning heads, and are continuing to prove to the world that they are unlike any other. We’ve all seen it, rappers and artists a like breaking into their 15 minutes of fame, causing ruckus and grabbing our attention, but what makes A$AP Rocky different is his ability to keep us interested, both lyrically and aesthetically. A$AP has had a natural flair for fashion since he started and he keeps proving it to us. His first feature in Complex Mag was with designer friend, Jeremy Scott, where they discussed music and Fashion; he wore a Teddy Bear Tee from Jeremy Scott, not one, but three identical gold chains, and a multicolored mask over his eyes. He has a natural ability to pair high fashion pieces straight off the runway with things he most likely has already had in his closet.
It’s evident he is inspired by various cultures and designers as he dresses for events, performances and tours. He is constantly taking risks as he naturally stays ahead of the fashion curve. Not many rappers can pull of the pieces A$AP can; he wore an Arabian inspired ‘thobe’ on tour with singer Rihanna, and on his Long Live A$AP Tour in LA came out in a custom vest and ski mask.
In the past couple of years we’ve seen A$AP walk the runway for HBA, dance with his model girlfriend, Chanel Iman, in Vogue, and wear a two-piece Dior Homme suit to perfection. Yeah, we know what you’re thinking, celebrities nowadays don’t pick out their own outfits, they have designers and stylists throwing things off the runway on to them to make them appear flawless, and that may be true in some cases, but not in Rocky’s. Have a chat with his stylist and the people who’ve dressed him and they’ll tell you the same thing, ASAP Rocky, also known as Pretty Flacko, has a unique and inherent taste in fashion- and he’d look just as good without all the “help”. He has a notable way of putting together avant-garde pieces from designers such as; HBA, KTZ, and Astrid Andersen, with the more tailored designers, like Balenciaga, and Prada. A$AP is a man with impressive taste, and we here at PAUSE look forward to seeing his next big fashion statement. Words: Alia Al-Rashid
