The 2020 MTV VMA Nominations Are Here

With just one month till the MTV Video Music Awards grace our screens, the American multinational company have revealed its nominations for 2020.

Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga lead the way with nine nominations each, whilst Billie Eilish and The Weeknd are not far behind with a total of six.

The four artists are all up for ‘Video of The Year’, the award shows most sought-after category. ‘Rain on Me’ by Gaga and Grande is up against ‘Everything I Wanted’ by Eilish and The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’

Remaining innovative in times of the pandemic, MTV chose to announce the nominations via Twitter’s latest feature – the voice notes. Sticking to being Covid-19 friendly, two fresh quarantine-friendly categories have also been introduced: ‘Best music video from home’ and ‘Best quarantine performance’. With the categories now gender-neutral, unlike any other award show, there will no longer be a ‘Best Male / Best Female’ categories.

The 2020 VMAs will air live at 8 pm ET/PT on Sunday 30^th of August across MTV and digital platforms.
