Setchu by Satoshi Kuwata Wins the 2023 LVMH Prize

Marking its 10th Anniversary.

Japanese designer, Satoshi Kuwata has been crowned as the winner of this year’s prestigious LVMH prize as his genderless label, Setchu beat off competition from eight other talented finalists in Paris on June 7th. Born in Kyoto before pursuing his fashion dream in London, the former designer at both Givenchy and YEEZY will receive a €400,000 endowment and mentorship from various LVMH teams.  

Meticulously judged by some of the industry’s most illustrious names, the LVMH additionally announced that Luca Magliano’s Magliano label and Better by Julie Pelipas were the joint winners of the Karl Lagerfeld Prize, awarded to its runner-up. The jury included the likes of Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri and Kim Jones, Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, Jonathan Anderson, and Nicolas Ghesquière.  

Finding himself among such names as S.S. Daley, Marine Serre, and Grace Wales Bonner, Kuwata has already expressed his future plans, ‘I want this company to be one of the Maison in this (LVMH) group’.  

A total of 2,400 designers from 15 countries applied for this year’s prize.
